Richmond's newest Canada Line station looks like it's ready to open soon, but there's still no update on when service will begin.
The Capstan SkyTrain Station, at Capstan Way and No. 3 Road, is in the final stages of construction, according to a TransLink spokesperson.
Construction of the station began in the summer of 2021 and was originally expected to open in fall 2023.
However, supply chain issues delayed the opening to mid-2024.
As the end of the year approaches, however, there is still no clear date for the station's opening.
"There are complex factors involved with integrating a new station into the existing Canada Line network to ensure the safety of all customers," said TransLink in an email to the Richmond News
When asked about the delays, TransLink said worksite conditions, supply chain considerations and construction schedule are all factors affecting the completion date.
"We continue working with our partners to deliver this important project for the region.”
The station is intended to support the growing Capstan Village community with between 4,000 to 6,000 new residential units in the making.
Costs of the $52-million project are shared between TransLink and the City of Richmond with support from developers.
