Emergency repair work is underway to fix eroded sections of the entrance road into Iona Beach Regional Park in Richmond.
Storm surge and king tides have "caused erosion that has affected the entrance road" into the regional park, said Richard Wallis, Metro Vancouver supervisor of parks operations, in an emailed statement to the Richmond News.
"We are currently coordinating with emergency repair crews and traffic control to assess the areas of concern," Wallis said.
"There is no erosion inside the park that we are aware of."
The entrance gate to the park at the end of Ferguson Road is closed, but the road is open up to that point, said Wallis.
The park remains open to foot traffic.
However, people "may find it more enjoyable to visit on another day," due to the high winds and emergency repair work underway in the area, Wallis said.
He added that the entrance gate will likely reopen to visitors tomorrow morning (Jan. 8).
The high winds and tides have also forced the closure of West Vancouver’s Seawalk and Ambleside Park.
Sections of the seawall in Vancouver have also been closed.
