As the saying goes, you can’t keep a good man or woman down.
And that applies to good old Santa Claus as well who, after a year on the sidelines, is set to make a triumphant return to Steveston Village next weekend.
Last year, the pandemic put paid to Santa’s annual arrival via lifeboat to Steveston Harbour.
But next Sunday, Dec. 5, at around 1 p.m., the jolly old elf is expected to sail into Fisherman’s Wharf with the help of the RCMSARS rescue vessel.
However, the Steveston Merchants Association (SMA) – which organizes the event – is telling the public that people will not be permitted on Fisherman’s Wharf during Santa’s arrival and can view him hitting land from the boardwalk instead.
Santa will be distanced from the crowd as he walks to the Gulf of Georgia Cannery.
Organizers added that, due to Covid restrictions, Santa is unable to meet with children inside the Cannery this year, but will instead join on some of the horse carriage rides through the village.
The carriage rides around the village will be loading on Bayview Street and No. 1 Road.
The SMA said it will attempt to organize timed rides so people don’t have to line up with long waits.
