Senior runners in Richmond prove age is just a number

The event was held on Sept. 8 and took participants from the Olympic Oval to Terra Nova and back.

Over 280 seniors defied age as they raced in the 10th annual Forever Young 8K.

The event, held on Sept. 8 exclusively for participants over the age of 55, took runners and walkers from the Richmond Olympic Oval all the way to Terra Nova and back.

Gordon Christie in the 60-64 age category secured the overall first spot with a time of 34:27– his wife Juliette Christie snatched the second spot overall in the same category with a total time of 34:39, just 12 seconds behind her husband.

While the 55-59 category usually dominates the race, Gordon and Juliette's victory demonstrates that age is just a number – this is further exemplified by Gwen McFarlan, the most senior competitor at 90 years.

First-place winners in each category were awarded with a bottle of Riesling from the Okanagan.

The event was organized by the Richmond Forever Young Club and the Richmond Olympic Oval, with the support of Nurse Next Door, Courtyard Gardens and Gilmore Gardens.
