Update: Shell Road south-bound ramp to Highway 99 now re-opened

Between 50 and 70 millimetres of rain was forecast on Monday, but rain is expected to ease on Tuesday.

Heavy rains hit the Lower Mainland on Monday causing extensive pooling of water on roads.

Drive BC posted on social media platform X that the southbound Shell Road ramp to Highway 99 has been re-opened after being closed Monday night due to flooding.

The closure alert from Drive BC was put out around 10 p.m. Monday night.

Heavy rain on Monday in the Lower Mainland caused flooding on many roads in the region. 

The B.C. River Forecast Centre sent out a flood watch advisory Monday morning.

Environment Canada was forecasting 50 to 70 millimetres of rain on Monday, easing Tuesday morning.

The City of Richmond was also asking community members to be careful near shorelines and riverbanks and beware of potentially strong river flows as the region braces for heavy rain.
