Some pay parking tickets immediately, other complain and pay: Poll results

Almost a quarter of respondents say they've never received a parking ticket.

More than a quarter of Richmond News poll respondents say they pay their parking tickets immediately. 

Meanwhile, about 16 per cent said they dispute parking tickets they get, while almost 22 per cent said they complain, but pay it anyway.

Fewer than 10 per cent ignore parking tickets and "hope for the best."

The News polled 748 readers and asked the question: How do you usually react when you get a parking ticket?

The poll ran from Feb. 5 to March 3.

Almost a quarter of respondents said they've never received a parking ticket.

Of the 748 votes, we can determine that 323 are from within the community. The full results are as follows:

Accept it and pay right away 29.72% local, 26.60% total    
Try to dispute it 16.41% local, 19.79% total    
Complain but still pay it 21.98% local, 20.99% total    
Ignore it and hope for the best 8.05% local, 8.69% total    
I've never received a parking ticket 23.84% local, 23.93% total

Results are based on an online study of adult Richmond News readers that are located in the Lower Mainland. The margin of error - which measures sample variability - is +/- 3.58%, 19 times out of 20.
