ANAF 284 in Steveston is closing as of Jan. 1, 2025.

The Army, Navy and Airforce club in Steveston has closed for the “foreseeable future” after its New Year’s Eve dinner and dance.

In a letter to its members, obtained by the Richmond News, management explained they’ve managed to slow the “financial haemorrhage to a slow bleed,” but their debt “continues to grow faster than we can react.”

The letter states the club would close as of Jan. 1.

The letter from the management committee goes on to explain they are planning to meet with some “well established parties” who would like to partner with Steveston Unit 284 “to take control of the property, and allow the Membership to have a permanent place to meet.”

Members appealed to Richmond city council a year ago asking for relief on their property taxes, which were $50,000 in arrears at that point.

In August, according to the City of Richmond, ANAF 284 had made "some payment" of their outstanding property taxes, but they continued to be in arrears.

ANAF Unit 284 is on No. 1 Road at Chatham Road. It’s in the same building at The Maple, a seniors independent living facility.

The News has reached out to ANAF for more information.
