The owner of the Super Grocer property in Steveston is looking for someone to redevelop the site after grocery store burned down in January.
The iconic grocery store and pharmacy burned on Jan. 26; since then, a temporary store and pharmacy have been operating in Steveston.
The lot on No. 1 Road just south of Chatham Street has been cleared and fenced off and has a real estate “information sign” on it.
Owner Sam Lu told the Richmond News, because he doesn’t have the expertise to develop the property, he’d like to find someone to build on it, possibly a building with residential above and the grocery store and pharmacy at ground level.
So far, however, no one has come forward with a “serious proposal,” Lu said.
The grocery store was selling flowers on the razed site, but this has been moved to their Moncton Street location.
They plan to sell flowers on No. 1 Road in the spring or possibly earlier, depending on the weather, Lu added.
In a statement to the News, Colin Schuss with Dorset Realty said the owner is “seeking proposals in writing from qualified prospective developers to either Purchase or enter into a Land Lease…”
This would be “subject to certain Purchase or Land Lease conditions to still be determined,” he added.
