Twenty-three days in June and July have been booked for the trial of a man accused of 17 crimes ranging from sexual assault, theft, possession of child pornography and “administering a noxious substance.”
The alleged crimes largely took place in Richmond and the trial of Satvir Sanghera is set for Richmond Provincial Court starting June 14.
Sanghera was released on bail last July to await trial with conditions to stay away from places where there is anyone under the age of 18 as well as to stay away from six named women.
Sanghera’s bail conditions also include staying away from sex workers and any sex trade agency.
Last year, Richmond RCMP sent out an appeal looking for alleged victims of Sanghera, at the time releasing his photo.
The crimes he is charged with date back to December 2015.
The Crown alleges that, between December 2015 and March 2016, Sanghera sexually assaulted a woman and distributed “an intimate image” without consent or “being reckless as to whether or not that person gave their consent.”
Furthermore, he is charged with possession of the woman’s underwear and credit card.
On April 21, 2016, he is alleged to have solicited a sex worker – which is a crime under Canadian law – and to have administered “a noxious substance” to a woman with the intent to “aggrieve or annoy her.” He is also charged with assault on this same woman.
In addition, Sanghera, a 50-year-old Richmond resident, is charged with sexually assaulting two sex workers, one in November 2017 and another in April 2019.
In March 2018, the Crown alleges Sanghera again communicated with a woman for sexual services, in Richmond, Vancouver or Coquitlam, but then proceeded to defraud her.
Sanghera is also charged with two counts of possession of child pornography.
While Sanghera was released on bail on July 21, 2020, he is charged with breaching bail conditions on July 30.
