Two people died in Richmond in October due to suspected drug poisoning, bringing the total number of deaths to 22 in 2024 so far.
The BC Coroners Service released its latest drug toxicity statistics on Monday, showing 155 people died in October across B.C., which is about five people a day.
The coroner reported 1,925 people died across the province from January to October, which is nine per cent lower than the number who died in the same period in 2023.
According to the coroner, 87.1 per cent of expedited toxicology results showed fentanyl present in those who died.
Of the total provincial deaths in B.C., 78 per cent were men. There were no deaths reported of anyone under the age of 19.
