Ever wondered where the salt comes from for our highways in the winter?
This graceful video of two excavators working to pile up the salt at Main Road Contracting’s Richmond depot shows you.
The video, shot by Richmond News reader Steve LaRocca, was filmed at the site at the very south end of No. 5 Road, where it meets Dyke Road.
It’s understood that the cranes are stockpiling the salt before it gets covered up to be used across the Lower Mainland.
Some of it will likely be needed today and tomorrow, as wet snow and heavy rain is forecast across the region.
A spokesperson for Main Road, said that one of its business streams is salt distribution, whereby they bring in bulk de-icing salt and then re-distribute it in the local market.
