Richmond Air Attack U17 girls team produced a bronze medal finish at the Provincial Club Volleyball Championships, held at the Olympic Oval.
This is a team of very hard working athletes most of whom were new to the Air Attack association this season — coming from various clubs in the Lower Mainland. The team represents many Richmond schools, including Boyd, McMath, McNair, SLSS and McRoberts. They are a developing and dedicated group with amazing team dynamics leading them to a very successful season to date, placing no lower than fourth in any tournament.
The provincials proved to be an amazing event as the girls fought hard for their place on the podium.
They had a devastating three set semi-final loss to Apex Flex (25-19, 20-25 and 13-15), which dashed their hopes of capturing gold. They refocused and went on to take Seaside in two sets (25-13 and 25-23), proudly securing the bronze.
The provincial medal was definitely a team effort and a highlight of the season. Next, they will be heading to Seattle at the end of May for the Emerald City Classic Tournament which attracts competition from across the United States.
Coached by John Parnell, with assistance from Mark Soto, the Air Attack’s roster includes: Jayden Parnell, Maya Kuzik, Maria Liaskas, Anika Nicholson, Sydney Dowling, Maarja von Schulmann, Noamie Boucher, Sofia Chang, Roshelle Flores, Camryn McDermott, Sarah Tang and Alina Badyal.
