Richmond Jet Minor Hockey Association unveiled its new logo earlier this month after asking for submissions from its membership.

A new era for minor hockey in Richmond now has its own identity.

The Richmond Jets Minor Hockey Association unveiled its new logo earlier this month as it gets set for its inaugural season.

The Jets are a amalgamation of Richmond Minor and Seafair  after a vote to merge the hockey associations was approved last fall by both memberships.

It culminated an extensive process that began 18 months earlier and featured plenty of hard work by a merger committee to at last bring the rivals together. Richmond now has the largest minor hockey association in the Pacific Coast region and second in B.C. with over 1,200 players.

The logo design was submitted by a parent after the executive had reached out to its membership following the new name being announced in April. It was then refined by a graphic designer and selected at a recent board meeting. Overseeing the entire process was executive member Alex Levin.

The next step is unveiling the official association colours and jerseys but the majority of players will be wearing the old Seafair and Richmond Minor kits this coming season to phase in start-up costs.

The only levels that will have the new logo is Hockey 1-4, Intro to Hockey and Atom “C” thanks to sponsorship. Cowell Motors is sponsoring all jersey screening for Hockey 1-4.

The inaugural Richmond Jets Opening Day celebration is slated for Sept. 8 at the Richmond Ice Centre. Visit www.richmondjetsmha.com to see the new association website.

The association has also announced its A1 rep coaches for the coming season — featuring some familiar names from both former associations. They include: Shawn McQuistin (Atom A1), Milton Chan (Pee Wee A1), Matt Berenger (Bantam A1), Derek Chichak (Midget A1) and Glenn Wheeler (Juvenile A1).
