The McMath Wildcats and McNair Marlins have captured their respective tiers in the Richmond Senior Boys Soccer League.
The Wildcats capped a dominant campaign in city play with a 6-1 win over the Richmond Colts in Thursday’s “AAA” final. It was the Steveston school’s 10th straight win against local competition.
The Colts had extended their season with a 1-0 win over the Steveston-London Sharks to earn a shot at McMath.
Both teams will now move on to the zone playoffs next week where they will see a steady diet of Vancouver opponents. At stake will be berths in the B.C. “AAA” Championships slated for Nov. 22-24 in Burnaby.
Meanwhile, the Marlins are “AA” champions after a 2-0 win over defending champion McRoberts.
McNair had advanced to the final by getting past the MacNeill Ravens 2-1 while the Strikers rolled to a 5-1 win over Hugh Boyd.
The Marlins and Strikers will be joined in the “AA” zone playdowns by the Ravens thanks to their 3-2 triumph against the Trojans.
The B.C. “AA” Championships will also take place in Burnaby — Nov. 19-21.
