Richmond's Olympic Oval will be taken over by athletes competing in Canada's most elite dodgeball competition this long weekend.
In its seventh year, the 2024 National Dodgeball Championships will bring more than 50 teams from across the country to Richmond, competing to be named Canada's top dodgeball club.
The competition, hosted by Dodgeball Canada in partnership with Dodgeball British Columbia, is taking place from June 29 to July 1 and is free for the public to watch.
Truong Cao, president of Dodgeball BC, said they are proud to have won the bid to be the host for this year's national event.
"B.C. has seen tremendous growth in the dodgeball space, doubling our athlete numbers since 2019," said Cao.
"Our hope is that this event will pique the interest of future dodgeballers - all are welcome!”
Previous championships were held in Toronto, Halifax, Winnipeg, Charlottetown, Edmonton and Montreal.
“Dodgeball skills and talent continues to develop from coast-to-coast and this event will bring together the best Canadian players and teams as they compete for a national title," said Cameron Booth, president of Dodgeball Canada.
Dodgeball players competing in the event include the Canadian National Team who will be competing at the World Dodgeball Championships in Graz, Austria this August.
As part of the event, Dodgetball Canada will be revealing the 2024 Team Canada jersey with a design by award-winning Haida artist April White (Sgaana Jaad).
