The Richmond Olympic Oval is now the new home for Field Hockey Canada.
The sport’s national governing body formally announced the partnership on Monday although the move into its new office space has already taken place.
“We’re thrilled to be working in a high-performance environment,” said Field Hockey Canada CEO Susan Ahrens. “We’re working to deliver a high performance on and off the field, so this move just feels like a great fit for us. The staff here have been very welcoming in our early days and we’re excited to continue working with such a great partner.”
Prior to centralizing in Europe, the women’s national team used the high-performance facility for strength and conditioning.
The men’s team and national junior Development athletes currently use the for regular training. They also use the indoor gym space to play indoor hockey in the winter time.
The men recently secured their second straight Summer Olympic Games berth with a thrilling qualifier series win over Ireland in West Vancouver. The women lost a shootout heartbreaker, also against Ireland, two weeks ago in Dublin.
The Oval is already home to several other sports organizations including the women’s national volleyball team.
