Richmond Kajaks athletes of all ages, past and present, turned out at the Minoru Centre for Active Living to celebrate two of the club’s most famous alumni.
The track and field club hosted the event to recognize the recent achievement at the World Athletic Championships by hammer thrower Camryn Rogers and racewalker Evan Dunfee.
Rogers won a gold medal in the hammer throw to claim her first world title and be the first Canadian female athlete to win a World gold since Perdita Felicien in 2003.
While Dunfee scored a 4th place finish in the 20 km race walk, followed by a season’s best time of 2:25:28 in the 35 km race.
More than 100 people came out to meet and cheer for Rogers and Dunfee.
“…It’s been really cool over the last couple of years to really see our new generation of heroes from the Kajaks family rise up,” said Garrett Collier, Kajaks head coach about the event on Friday.
