Richmond native Glenn Gawdin was rewarded for his impressive season to date in the American Hockey League by being called-up by the Calgary Flames yesterday.

Glenn Gawdin is poised to make his regular season NHL debut this week.

The 22-year-old forward from Richmond was called-up on Monday from the Calgary Flames’ American Hockey League affiliate after Derek Ryan was placed on injured reserve. Calgary is slated to host Boston on Friday.

Gawdin had 15 goals and 27 assists in 46 games with the Stockton Heat in his second full season in the AHL. He participated in last month’s AHL All-Star Game.

It was back in the fall of 207 when Gawdin signed a three-year entry level contract with the Flames as a free agent after being an unsigned fourth round pick (116th overall) of the St. Louis Blues in the 2015 NHL Entry Draft.

He concluded his junior career in grand style in 2018, captaining the Swift Current Broncos to the Western Hockey League championship and their first trip to the Memorial Cup in 25 years. He earned the playoff MVP award thanks to 32 points in 24 games. He finished second in league scoring that season with 125 points in 67 games, including 56 goals.

His minor hockey career included time with both Richmond Minor and Seafair before a one-year stint with the Major Midget Greater Vancouver Canadians.
