The Richmond Rockets and Vancouver Velocity speed skating clubs are teaming up to host a short track competition on Saturday at the Richmond Olympic Oval.

The first-ever V-Room Challenge will take place in the north rink and feature over 165 athletes — already making it the largest speed skating competition in B.C. this season.

Provincial and Regional stream skaters will have a chance to qualify for the B.C. Short Track Championships. There will be some very exciting racing too, featuring junior skaters who will representing B.C. at the upcoming Canada Winter Games in Prince George.

Richmond Mayor Malcolm Brodie will be on hand for the official opening ceremony at 8:45 a.m. The racing runs from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.

The host Richmond club will have 30 skaters competing in various divisions.
