31-0.

Nope, its not a lopsided football score from the weekend but rather the damage the Richmond Sockeyes have inflicted on their opponents so far this season.

The defending Pacific International Junior Hockey League champions are off to a sizzling start, capping a three game in four night stretch with an 8-0 win over the Mission Icebreakers on Sunday. The Sockeyes also blasted the Ridge Meadows Flames 7-0 on Friday and 24 hours earlier, embarrassed the previously unbeaten North Vancouver Wolfpack 10-0.

The almost stunning results is early evidence Richmond continues to distance itself from the majority of the league thanks to adding to its talent base with another successful off-season of recruiting.

Justin Rai is off to a terrific start in his PIJHL rookie season with a league-leading 12 points in four games, while 16-year-old local product Carter Popoff is also off to a sizzling start with nine points. Veteran Rudi Thorsteinson has picked up where he left off from last years outstanding post-season with a 11 points and Kyzen Loo is living up to his high pre-season expectations with eight points in three games.

Rookie netminder Jonah Imoo picked up his third shutout in as many starts with relative ease on Sunday, as Richmond outshot Mission 61-10.

The Sockeyes will host the North Delta Devils on Thursday at 7:30 p.m.
