The power hitting of Sydney Dick helped the McRoberts Strikers defeat the Sentinel Spartans in this match on their way to a third place finish at last week’s Lower Mainland Seniopr Girls Volleyball Playoff Tournament. The result sends the Richmond champions to next week’s B.C. “AAA” Championships in Parksville. The host Strikers reached the semi-finals before falling to Little Flower Academy then rebounded Saturday with a win over North Vancouver’s Windsor Dukes. The provincials start a week Thursday and are being hosted by Ballenas secondary school.
Meanwhile, the Steveston-London Sharks are headed back to the B.C. AAA Boys Championships thanks to their fourth place finish at the Mainland tourney. The city champs went 2-1 in pool play then locked up a provincial berth with a win over Moscrop (3-0) in the quarter-finals. The boys then fell to Gladstone (3-0) in the semis before closing out play with a loss to David Thompson (3-1) in the third place game. The provincials start next Wednesday at the Langley Events Centre.
