It was a script that was all too familiar for the Richmond Strikers at B.C. Soccer’s Provincial “A” Cup Championships last weekend at South Surrey Athletic Park.
The U15 Metro girls team capped another decorated campaign with a 4-1 win over Okanagan champion Kelowna Heat in Sunday’s bronze medal game.
The Strikers had opened the championships with a 3-1 loss to the Upper Island Riptide then saw their gold medal hopes dashed a day later in a 2-1 loss to Metro League regular season champion West Vancouver Rangers.
They closed out round-robin play against Kelowna on Saturday and produced a 1-0 win, knowing the same two teams would be meeting again a day later for bronze.
It was the identical path to the 2018 tournament when Richmond dropped its opening two games and also defeated the Heat in the third place game.
The Strikers entered both championships as the Coastal “A” Cup champions. Their 2019 path included a win in penalty kicks over the Riptide in the semi-finals.

At the Les Sinnott Memorial Provincial “B” Cup Boys Championships in Prince George, the U16 Richmond F.C. Rangers capped their fine campaign with a 1-2 record in round-robin play.
Richmond slipped past the Kootenay South Storm 1-0, before being edged 3-2 by the Kamloops Blaze. The Rangers then closed out the tourney with a 2-1 loss to Squamish United.
