Do you know Richmond well enough to be an ambassador for the city?

That’s the question Tourism Richmond is asking residents with the launch of their new “Pacific. Authentic. Locals” program.

The program is designed to inform residents about the value of tourism, and to provide an opportunity for locals to show Richmond off to the many who visit the city.

“We wanted to create a program to engage residents in a new way,” said Nancy Small, CEO of Tourism Richmond.

“Residents are the fabric of the city and we felt (the new program) was a great way to both educate and engage them on the value of tourism to the city.”

The program features two knowledge tests, covering Richmond as an international travel destination, and the value of tourism to the city.

Participants will receive an official ambassador certificate for each test they pass, and those who pass both tests will be entered into an online draw to win the Richmond Ambassador Prize, consisting of:

  • One Pacific. Authentic. Richmond, B.C. swag bag
  • Two adult tickets for a whale watching tour with Vancouver Whale Watch
  • Entry into the Gulf of Georgia National Historic Site
  • A $150 gift card for McArthurGlen Designer Outlet

According to Tourism Richmond, residents play a “crucial part” in the experience of visiting Richmond, including welcoming visitors to the city, recommending its many attractions, sights and restaurants, to visiting friends and family.

“Visitors are looking for an authentic experience. They want to do as the locals do,” said Small.

“Now, locals have a chance to share their love of Richmond with future visitors.”

Small added that Tourism Richmond hopes residents give “a warm Richmond welcome” to visitors once travel restrictions are lifted.
