Several parks and facilities in Richmond are closing one by one as strong winds are affecting power lines.
Multiple areas in Richmond are experiencing power outages including the Richmond Ice Centre and Watermania, however, the fitness centre is still open.
According to the city’s Twitter post, the “power is expected to be restored for this evening.”
Richmond Public Library has taken to Twitter to let residents know that the Steveston branch has their power restored, but their Cambie location is still without power however, it is open with no computer services.
The City of Richmond has also closed several park trails due to today’s strong wind currents.
According to the city’s Twitter post, the east and west Nature Park trails, and Shell Road trails are closed for public safety as of 12:45 p.m.
The South Dyke Trail between Gilbert and No. 3 Road is also closed as of 3:17 p.m.
Environment Canada issued a special weather statement this morning, stating there will be winds of up to 80 kilometres per hour in certain western regions today.
The city is reminding residents to “be cautious during this time as trees/debris may fall or loose objects may be tossed by the wind and cause injurty/damage.”
Storm-related emergencies, such as broken traffic signals, hazardous or downed trees on streets, sidewalks or in public parks should be reported to the city’s 24-hour dispatch line at 604-270-8721.
