Letters: Richmond bike lanes not cleared even though snow was not a surprise

Dear Editor,

Re: "'May be delays': TransLink warns snow could affect Metro Vancouver commutes"

It's been over 48 hours since the snowfall, and the bike lanes in Richmond still do not exist.

We pay tax to the government and they do not clear the bike path at all, forcing cyclists to bike on busy streets with cars going at least 50km/h.

Look at Garden City bike lane - you can't even see it. The sidewalks are no better.

If you go down No. 4 Road, a major street, how many houses have their sidewalks cleaned?

Riding bicycles in Richmond is dangerous to start with, given the lack of "slow streets" and bike routes.

In addition to this, now the few bike path like Garden City, Railway and Williams are not cleaned and cleared, making them even more dangerous.

This snowfall isn't a surprise incident. We all knew snow was coming.

The city workers should have put out salt and should be out clearing bike paths.

If I break my hips while riding down the "bike path," will City of Richmond be responsible for it?
