Two streets in the Richmond Centre redevelopment are named after Const. Jimmy Ng.

The street signs might not be up yet, but two roads at the Richmond Centre redevelopment have been named to honour a Richmond RCMP constable who was killed on the job.

“Cst. Jimmy Ng Road” is part of the residential and commercial development and is now emblazoned on at least one building on the new road.

Two roads in the development are being named in honour of Ng - Cst. Jimmy Ng Road and Cst. Jimmy Ng Place.

Ng was killed on duty on Sept. 15, 2002, when a car ran a red light in a street race at No. 3 and Williams roads.

Richmond RCMP appreciates this “touching tribute” to Ng by the City of Richmond, said RCMP spokesperson Cpl. Adriana O’Malley.

“For all Richmond RCMP officers, this tribute is very meaningful as it ensures the continual remembrance of an individual amongst our ranks who paid the ultimate sacrifice in service of his community,” said O’Malley.

“The significance of this is even greater for those who had the honour of serving with him.”

The night Ng was killed, the driver fled the scene but was later found and given a two-year sentence.
