Richmond Cares, Richmond Gives (RCRG)

As experts on the volunteer landscape in Richmond, the team at Richmond Cares, Richmond Gives (RCRG) manages a comprehensive online database of local volunteer opportunities.
Updated regularly with positions from dozens of non-profit and community groups, RCRG’s database helps connect residents of all ages and backgrounds with fun, rewarding and meaningful ways to volunteer and give back.
Richmond residents can discover volunteer opportunities that match their personal skills, interests and availability and then apply for these roles directly through the RCRG website. By centralizing, streamlining and simplifying the process of becoming a volunteer, RCRG is making it easier for people to get involved in their community and support the causes they care about.
The theme for National Volunteer Week 2025 is "Volunteers Make Waves." In Richmond and communities across Canada, volunteers are a powerful force—shaping everyday life with their energy, compassion and dedication.
While thanking volunteers should be an everyday occurrence, this week, in particular, is an opportunity to amplify that gratitude. RCRG encourages everyone, in their own way, to show their appreciation for volunteers and all they contribute to our community.

Gilmore Gardens

Volunteers are a key part of Gilmore Gardens, as it is through their kind efforts and giving nature that members of the independent living retirement residence can continue to lead purposeful and engaged lives. Over 45 volunteers contribute their time, share their talents and make a difference in this thriving community.
For volunteers from the residence and from the greater Richmond community, volunteering is a wonderful way to get involved and make connections through shared passions at Gilmore Gardens.
When a resident first moves into the residence, they are welcomed by resident ambassadors who assist newcomers in adjusting to their new home. As they settle in, they will enjoy the energetic leadership of volunteers through one of the many programs and activities offered at Gilmore Gardens.
Some of these offerings include walking groups, arts and crafts sessions, discussion groups, cake and tea time and monthly birthday celebrations.
Before they know it, new residents may be sharing their own expertise, such as Gilmore Gardens resident Roger, who began leading guitar sing-a-longs in the evenings within a couple of weeks of his arrival. Soon, he was headlining a group of community volunteers carolling from floor-to-floor during Christmastime! Even Errol, the husband of long-time Gilmore Gardens staff member Angela, decided to get in on the fun by leading a monthly sing-a-long with residents.
Gilmore Gardens is looking forward to honouring their volunteers with a special thank you celebration during National Volunteer Week, as well as inviting volunteers to their annual garden planting day in May.
