The Richmond Christmas Fund’s 5th Annual Online Auction is back, offering Greater Vancouver residents a unique chance to score incredible deals while supporting a meaningful cause.
Running from Nov. 19 to Dec. 5, 2024, the auction features over 70 items donated by local businesses and community members. Every bid placed helps fund grocery vouchers for low-income families, ensuring that more Richmond residents can enjoy a festive holiday celebration.
“We like to say that every bid makes a holiday wish come true,” says Ed Gavsie, President and CEO of Richmond Cares, Richmond Gives (RCRG), the organization behind the Richmond Christmas Fund.
Exclusive auction items and experiences
This year’s auction lineup includes standout items such as a three-night Las Vegas getaway with airfare, BC Lions Red Zone Club Seats, and Vancouver Canucks Club Tickets for their Feb. 2, 2025 game against the Detroit Red Wings.
Other highlights include a staycation package at River Rock Casino Resort, a round of golf at Meadow Gardens, and handmade pottery by local artists.
“These items showcase the incredible generosity of our community,” Gavsie says. “From high-end experiences to unique, locally crafted gifts, there’s truly something for everyone.”
How to get involved
Participating in the auction is simple. Interested bidders can visit rcf2024.givesmart.com to browse items, register, and place bids.
Starting bids are set at 50% of the retail value, offering participants the chance to score deals while engaging in friendly competition.
“At the auction’s end, winning bidders will receive instructions on how to pay and collect their items,” Gavsie says.
“It’s an easy, exciting way to support a vital community program.”
Supporting families in need
Proceeds from the auction directly benefit the Richmond Christmas Fund, a charitable initiative with a 90-year history of helping the community. In 2023 alone, the program provided grocery vouchers, toys, and gift cards to nearly 4,000 individuals, including over 1,500 children and teens.
“The auction is one of our largest fundraising efforts,” Gavsie says.
“Every dollar raised goes toward ensuring that Richmond families in need can celebrate the holidays with dignity and joy.”
The annual auction works to foster community spirit in Richmond, Gavsie says.
“The Richmond Christmas Fund is a testament to what we can achieve when we come together,” he says.
A community effort
Local businesses and community members play a critical role in the auction’s success. This year, notable contributors include the Richmond Auto Mall, which has donated over a dozen items, and Larco Hospitality, offering $500 in gift certificates to their hotel restaurants.
“The generosity of our partners is what makes this event possible,” Gavsie says.
“Their contributions ensure we can continue to make a positive impact on thousands of lives.”
Final call for bids
With only a limited time to participate, Gavsie encourages everyone to get involved, whether they’re seasoned bidders or first-timers.
“It’s fun, it’s rewarding, and it’s for an incredible cause,” he says.
“Plus, it’s a great way to take care of your holiday shopping while giving back.”
