Richmond Food Bank Society’s east Richmond depot will be re-opening on June 9.
The society will be re-opening their Peace Mennonite Church location,11571 Daniels Rd., to help ease the long ling-ups at their main distribution site located at 5800 Cedarbridge Way.
“The re-opening will also allow us to reach out to clients in the east Richmond area who were unable to come to our main location or take advantage of our home delivery service,” said Hajira Hussain, executive director of the Richmond Food Bank Society.
“We understand that these are some challenging times for many and we are working hard to ensure that access to food is the least of people’s worries during this uncertain time.”
As part of the COVID-19 response, the food bank’s choice model – where patrons choose their own groceries – is not available at the moment and instead will be served one at a time at the door by staff.
Patrons can pick up food once a week per household from their choice of locations.
For those planning to visit the church depot, community members are asked to arrive no earlier than 3:30 p.m.
The Peace Mennonite Church depot is open Tuesdays from 3:30 to 5 p.m. while the main site is open Monday through Thursday from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. and Saturdays from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.
Depots at the Richmond Baptist Church and Steveston United Church will remain closed until further notice.
