A free, one-day event to help local seniors stay engaged and independent in the community is happening in Richmond this Wednesday.
The 2025 Richmond Seniors Expo, hosted by the Richmond News, will take place at Kwantlen Polytechnic University's (KPU) Richmond Campus from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on April 9.
Guest speakers will share tips on how seniors can live healthier, more active lives.
Naturopathic doctor Dr. Romi Fung will talk about treating the root cause of disease using natural methods. He is especially passionate about brain health and dementia care.
Meanwhile, Dr. Kim Christie president of Richmond Clinical Trials, will share her expertise on neurological diseases, including her specialty in Alzheimer's disease.
Erin Turner, an accredited seniors real estate specialist, will explain how seniors and their families can handle the process of downsizing, rightsizing and selling a family home.
Lastly, Maureen Fakaro, general manager at Gilmore Gardens Retirement Residence, will discuss her role in supporting seniors as they transition into retirement living.
Fakaro has worked in Richmond's independent senior homes for more than 20 years, mostly at Gilmore Gardens, which is operated by Verve Senior Living.

- 11:30 a.m. to 12 p.m. - Dr. Kim Christie, Richmond Clinical Trials
- 1 to 1:30 p.m. - Drin Turner, Accredited senior real estate specialist
- 1:30 to 2 p.m. - Maureen Fakaro, Gilmore Gardens
Admission for events is free. Community members can drop by to the events, but space is limited.
