Odour issue in Richmond could be related to 'natural sources': Metro Vancouver

Conditions to improve with cooler weather.

Richmond residents have raised concerns over an odour in the city.

The ongoing smelly situation in Richmond could be coming from Mother Earth, according to Metro Vancouver.

More than 70 complaints about a "foul" and "noxious" odour were received by Metro Vancouver since September.

The regional utility management company stated wind and tide data suggest the recent odours "may be connected to a natural source," specifically algae.

City of Richmond and Metro Vancouver staff are working together to continue to monitor the odour and expect conditions to improve as the weather cools, according to Kim Decker, communications officer at the City of Richmond.

Any odour complaints are to be directed to Metro Vancouver at 604-436-6777 or online by clicking here.
