Richmond's Rose's Angels donate to local not-for-profits

This is the 12th year Rose's Angels has fundraised and donated items to not-for-profits.

Richmond's Rose's Angels was out once again delivering care packages filled with daily necessities and food to help vulnerable people.

Rose's Angels, under the umbrella of the Kehila Society of Richmond, held its 12th annual event where they received items and monetary donations from the public and then created and donated care packages in March to 14 not-for-profit organizations.

Co-founders Courtney Cohen and Lynne Fader started Rose's Angels in memory of Cohen's grandmothers, Rose Lewin and Babs Cohen, who valued philanthropy and the importance of giving back to the community, explained Cohen.

The top priority items for many of the agencies Rose's Angels worked with this year were baby formula and diapers.

Items in the packages included hygiene products, non-perishable food items, children's arts and crafts and books.

Richmond Family Place, Mama's for Mama's Richmond, Turning Point Recovery, Pathways Clubhouse and the Jewish Food Bank were some of the agencies that received care packages.

"Being a new mom myself, I can't imagine the feeling of not having the accessibility or means to purchase essential items for my child," said Cohen.

"With the ever-rising cost of inflation and the toll it's having on families (and) single parents, formula is becoming more of a challenge to obtain."

She told the Richmond News that growing up, her parents and grandparents taught her to "recognize and respond to the needs of others" with kindness and generosity.

"I hope to instill in my children the importance of tikkun olam, Hebrew for repairing the world, by focusing on one mitzvah (good deed) at a time."
