Richmond Olympian Evan Dunfee got more than he bargained for when he turned up at Kingswood elementary last week to pick up a cheque on behalf of children’s charity KidSport.
As part of the professional race walker’s bid to raise money while walking 25 kilometres a day for 25 days – to mark KidSport’s 25th anniversary – Kingswood principal Ron Manning told his students they could pie him and Dunfee in the face if they raised $1,000.
Clearly motivated, they exceeded their target, bringing in more than $1,200 in just 5 days.
Pictures tell a thousand words and it appears as if Dunfee and Manning enjoyed the taste.
As well as his daily 25 kilometres – which he recently completed - Dunfee visited 25 schools to tell his story and give motivational talks.
KidSport is a nationwide non-profit agency that helps support families that find it difficult to come up with the funds to register their children for community sporting programs.
