Richmond City Hall has once again been transformed into a Winter Wonderland for the holiday season.
The event, put on by the Rotary Club of Richmond Sunset, features beautifully decorated trees sponsored by local businesses and organizations set up indoors and outdoors at city hall.
Community members are invited to check out the trees for free and bring a non-perishable food item for the Richmond Food Bank. The trees inside the Galleria are available for viewing on weekdays until Dec. 22 and the live trees outside on the North Plaza will be available until Jan. 1.
They can also pick their favourite tree for a chance to win a lucky draw. Winners will be contacted in January.
Musical matinee concerts featuring local talents will be available as well twice a day on Saturdays for the next three weekends:
Funds raised will benefit community projects and student initiatives, such as adding a peace garden to Garden City Park, supporting student service club initiatives at Hugh Boyd and Steveston-London secondary schools and funding scholarships at Kwantlen Polytechnic University.
As well, donations will benefit the Richmond Community Foundation, Richmond Christmas Fund and Rotary Foundation. The Rotary Club of Richmond Sunset is also working on raising money to establish an endowment fund for maternal and child health.
All trees are decorated by the Rotary interactors of Hugh Boyd and Steveston-London secondary schools, in addition to other volunteers. The outdoor trees will be planted in city parks after the event.
Winter Wonderland at Richmond City Hall Plaza runs from now until Jan. 1 at Richmond City Hall, 6911 No. 3 Rd.
