A pickleball tournament at a Richmond high school has netted more than $10,000 for the Canadian Cancer Society.

Students at Cambie secondary, assisted by teacher Linda Wong, held the Play for Hope tournament for the third year running on Saturday, Jan. 18 with 92 participants.

The tournament included raffle prizes and a concession which helped bring the total raised to $10,557.

This was about $2,000 more than was raised at last year’s pickleball fundraiser.

The two Grade 12 students, Maya Parmar and Alexandra Mejia, who organized the event will be succeeded by other students who have “stepped up to the plate” to organize the tournament next year, Wong told the Richmond News.

Wong said the tournament was “amazing,” and, of course, it got competitive despite the “fun aspect” of the tournament.

“It is a competitive sport after all,” she said.
