Not all art is permanent and an example in Richmond’s 5C - No. 5 Road and Cambie - neighbourhood attests to that.
A series of wooden art posts, installed near the stone amphitheatre in King George Park, is set to be removed as they have deteriorated “due to rot from moisture, biological growth (algae) and insect activity,” according to the City of Richmond.
City staff noted, in a report to council in December, that the posts are at risk of breaking and thereby are possibly of public safety concern.
The Cambie Community Gathering Place was created by artist Pomegranate Center in 2006 to provide seating for summer concerts and other events.
The wooden posts, included in this gathering place, were re-painted in 2015 by volunteers.
The City of Richmond said the poles will be coming down in the next few weeks.
The cost to remove them is estimated to be $3,000.
