Loaded onto a truck and ready for warmer climes, Wind Waves bode a final farewell to Garry Point Park on Wednesday.
The popular sculpture which has been a feature at the Steveston waterfront park for 18 months as part of the temporary Biennale public art exhibition will now go on show in Palm Desert in California with a view to being sold.
Despite its popularity with locals and tourists alike, Richmond city council decided not to buy it for around $400,000 after an online public survey indicated no desire for the city to retain any of the Biennale artworks.
There are now moves afoot for the Biennale to return to the city next year for its 2013/14 public art exhibition.
