A plan of action to mitigate the homeless crisis in Richmond is on the agenda for City of Richmond's general purposes committee meeting on Monday.

City councillor Kash Heed is looking at immediate steps to help the homeless population in the city to "secure care for the acute drug-addicted and/or persons with critical mental illnesses that are homeless," according to the 4 p.m. committee agenda.

The agenda item is returning to GP after the mayor postponed Heed's motion earlier this month.

Meanwhile, councillors and staff will discuss a new rapid bus route being proposed between Richmond and Burnaby in partnership with TransLink.

However, staff has pointed out concerns that TransLink's proposed exclusive bus lanes in the plan would "increase traffic delays by at least 50 per cent" in the city.
