The Richmond Olympic Park Run will celebrate its 6th birthday and Halloween with a free 5K event on Saturday, Oct. 29

Next Saturday there are two good reasons to get dressed up and go for a five-kilometre run.

Organizers of the Richmond Olympic Park Run are inviting people to come out and celebrate the free, weekly event’s sixth birthday and, of course, Halloween.

Starting at 9 a.m. on Oct. 29, (registration is at 8:45), the timed run along the Middle Arm Trail near the Olympic Oval will mark six years of running, jogging and walking along the dike.

As Halloween is just around the corner, many of the participants will be dressed for the occasion.

And, say organizers, there will be free cake for all that take part.

If you’re not familiar with the event, all kinds of people are invited and take part every week, from serious runners (who can sign up to receive a recorded time) to casual joggers and walkers.

For the latter, there’s no need to worry about being left behind and there is a designated “Tail Walker” every week to keep those near the back company.

Organizers also note that there are other volunteer roles available.

The event kicks off every week from close to the Richmond Yacht Club on River Road, just south of its intersection with Cambie Road.
