Despite warnings that gas prices would increase over the weekend, many drivers were still shocked to see the numbers at gas stations continuing to climb this weekend.
According to GasBuddy.com, some stations were charging as high as 225.9 cents a litre for regular on Sunday afternoon.
That is around five cents more since last Thursday
GasBuddy is reporting that the Chevron on Westminster Highway and No. 2 Road and Petro-Canada on Francis and No. 1 roads were among those charging 225.9 cents per litre on Sunday.
Meanwhile, the Shell on Garden City and Lansdowne roads showed a cheaper price of 223.9 centres a litre.
It’s not just international or industrial factors such as the Ukraine war, pandemic supply chain disruptions or pipeline concerns that have driven prices. B.C.’s carbon tax increase in April boosted that tax up to 11 cents.
Premier John Horgan announced a $110 gas rebate for insured drivers earlier this year. Commercial drivers were told to expect $165.
Some British Columbians will see that rebate arrive by direct deposit later in May, while others will receive a cheque in June.
Prices are expected to climb even higher this evening and Monday morning.
