Richmond Fire-Rescue (RFR) is investigating a fire that closed off a section of Alderbridge Way in city centre last week.
Firefighters, as well as Richmond RCMP and BC Emergency Services (BCEHS), responded to a report of a fire inside a structure at 7000 Alderbridge Way just before 8 p.m. on Oct. 30.
A video posted on social media by a group called Neighbours of Richmond showed Alderbridge Way was blocked off between Elmbridge Way and Westminster Highway, right in front of the Alderbridge Modular Housing by Richmond RCMP. There were six Richmond Fire-Rescue trucks and one ambulance on site.
Grant Wyenberg, assistant deputy fire chief, said crews arrived to find heavy smoke and fire conditions at the multi-suite housing facility.
The fire was found on the third floor of the building and was extinguished by the entry team, explained Wyenberg.
Emergency medical treatment was provided to one patient on the scene and they were taken to the hospital in stable condition, according to BCEHS.
Wyenberg told the Richmond News it took a few hours before the road was reopened and occupants were able to return to their suite after the building was "sufficiently ventilated."
No further information on what caught on fire is available as the cause of the fire is still under investigation.
