If you’ve ever dreamed of owning a ferry, then this is your last chance to bid on the retired Queen of Burnaby vessel.
The retired vessel is on the auction block until Jan. 4 with a starting bid of just $5,000.
But don’t think you’ll be taking her on the high seas. The ship is being sold under the condition that it can no longer be used for sailing or trade. Instead, you’ll be recouping your money in scrap metal or by converting it into a static business, such as a restaurant.
The GovDeals site also states that the lucky buyer will also need a towing certificate to move the vessel from the B.C. Ferries Richmond terminal.
The 1965 Queen of Burnaby was the 10th vessel built for B.C. Ferries and was the last built of her design. She served the Powell River-Comox route since 2001, and has been owed by three separate owners with three different names over her 42-year history, according to Westcoast Ferries.
She was previously put on the auction block in 2016 for a starting bid of $400,000. There were no takers.
The top bid as of Jan. 3 was $100,020 — a tenth of the median housing price in Richmond in 2017. The auction ends Jan. 4th at 3 p.m. EST.
