A multi-jurisdiction police operation linked to gang activity appeared to end with the arrest of a woman in Richmond.
Witnesses reported on Thursday seeing police officers swooping on multiple locations including two in Downtown Vancouver and a home in Richmond’s Hamilton neighbourhood.
In Richmond, Vancouver Police Department (VPD) officers, with a mobile command unit and assisted by Richmond RCMP members, were seen going in and out of a home in the 23200-block of Gilley Road in Hamilton.
A woman was then seen being taken from the home in handcuffs.
Richmond RCMP said it couldn’t comment, as it was only assisting the VPD with its operation.
Meanwhile, at Georgia and Jervis streets in Vancouver, witnesses reported on social media that a building was cordoned off with police tape.
A handgun was apparently visible on the ground, however, police said no shots were fired.
Nearby, police were also called to a building at 1200 West Georgia, where there were reports that police cleared two upper floors over fears about explosives.
“The police activity…relates to an ongoing investigation into Lower Mainland gang crime. We are unable to provide additional information at this time,” Vancouver Police Department’s Sgt. Jason Robillard told the Richmond News via email.
