A Richmond resident who’s been the interim executive director of the Gulf of Georgia Cannery Society has received the appointment on a permanent basis.
Elizabeth Batista was originally on the society’s board and served for the past year as interim head of the historic site in Steveston.
Board chair Kit Grauer said the board of directors was “thrilled” to confirm her position in a unanimous vote.
“On a personal note, I am gratified for the astounding energy and accomplishments that Elizabeth has brought to her nine years on the board and one year as interim executive director,” Grauer added.
“We are a small but mighty museum, and the society is privileged to have our wonderful staff and volunteers be led by a dynamic and accomplished manager such as Elizabeth.”
The society operates the Gulf of Georgia Cannery National Historic Site with tours and educational programs and regular maintenance.
Batista lives in Richmond and served on the society’s board, for a time as board chair.
She then stepped away from the board and was appointed as interim executive director.
