The SPCA is recommending animal cruelty charges against a Richmond pet owner after a Pomeranian was stabbed to death last month.

Animal cruelty investigators were called by RCMP in early October to help with the case, and a necropsy was performed on the tiny dog.

“Unfortunately, the cause of death was quite evident,” said Marcie Moriarty, general manager of cruelty investigations for the B.C. SPCA.

She added that the owner had no prior history with the SPCA. The file has been passed on to Crown prosecutors for charge approval.

Charges will also be recommended against the owner of a French bulldog found dead in Vancouver on Nov. 3.

“As a result of our preliminary investigation and results of a necropsy, we feel that there’s sufficient evidence for a finding that the dog suffered prior to death,” Moriarty said.
