The daughter of a Kelowna RCMP superintendent has been charged in connection to a suspected dial-a-doper operation.
Lisa Hope McKinnon, the 22-year-old daughter of Supt. Bill McKinnon, was arrested in Kelowna on Tuesday, RCMP said Friday morning.
McKinnon, who is a resident of Richmond, was arrested along with a 20-year-old man also connected to the operation, said RCMP spokesman Const. Kris Clark.
He said McKinnon has been charged with two counts of possession for the purpose of trafficking, and has been released on a series of conditions until her next court appearance.
Clark said it's believed she was in possession of heroin and cocaine, but lab tests still have to confirm the substances.
The officer declined to comment further on the matter, and said Supt. McKinnon wouldn't be commenting because it's a personal matter.
In an interview with Castanet News, Kelowna RCMP Insp. Rick Flewelling said steps were taken to "protect the integrity of the investigation," given Supt. McKinnon's relationship.
"There's no question [Supt. McKinnon] is disappointed," he said. "and I think he's taking it like any parent would."
He said the situation shows that "nobody is immune from drugs and it could happen to anyone of us."
The 20-year-old man who was arrested was a suspected buyer who will be charged with possession of a controlled substance, Flewelling said.
