Richmond Ikea is looking to expand its current store on Jacombs Road by 50 per cent.

The city has received a development application from Ikea to expand its e-commerce, parcel, home delivery and other “click and collect” services.

The proposal is to expand the building on the south side, adding a two-storey 15,800-square-metre extension, a city spokesperson confirmed.

This is about 170,000 square feet – the current building is about 334,000 square feet.

In a statement, an Ikea spokesperson said the home furniture and furnishings store wants to become more “accessible, affordable and sustainable.”

The application is currently being reviewed by city staff and no timeline has been set for when it will come to city council for approval.

The application was submitted to the city in 2022 by Michael Burton-Brown of ABBARCH Architecture.
