A group of young people were at Brighouse library repainting the stairs on Thursday for the fifth year as part of Richmond’s Pride Week celebrations.
The stairs are painted in rainbow colours - the symbol of the LGBT community.
They were first painted in 2019, but because it’s a tempera paint, it needs to be redone every year, and the Richmond Arts Centre makes it part of the city’s Pride activities.
The event give visibility to the LGBT community and gives voice to youth, explained Rachel Lui who is the summer lead for the Richmond Arts Centre.
“It’s a really great way to show community pride,” Lui said.
The young people were joined by Richmond-Steveston MLA Kelly Greene who was painting the bottom stair in purple.
