Richmond RCMP have arrested two males after they were spotted inside a pick-up truck that had been reported stolen earlier in the morning.

Just before 6 a.m. last Wednesday, July 16, a red Nissan pick-up truck was reported as stolen from the 9300 block of Glenacres Drive, close to Garden City and Francis roads.

By 11:39 a.m., Richmond RCMP had two suspects in custody.

“This is exactly why officers join the Property Crime Unit,” said Sgt. Simon Lee, NCO in charge of Targeted Enforcement Units.

“They are passionate about finding and arresting those who are committing these offences.”

Officers arrested the two suspects in the city centre, in the 6600 block of Eckersley Road, close to Cooney and Cook roads.

They had earlier followed the vehicle through several neighbourhoods, but for reasons of public safety, waited until the two exited the vehicle before approaching. Both males were arrested without incident.

Charges have since been laid against James Bonney and Stephen Davis.

Bonney has been charged with:

Possession of property under $5000 obtained by crime

Possession of break-in instrument

Davis has been charged with:

Possession of property under $5000 obtained by crime

Possession of break-in instrument

Davis was also arrested on an outstanding warrant from Richmond.

“If you see something and you think it’s suspicious, call it in,” added Lee.

“We are actively out there but the more eyes we have watching out for suspicious activities the better. In this case a citizen keeping a watchful eye out on his community alerted police to the original theft of the vehicle which ultimately resulted in the successful arrest of two people.”

Anyone who may have witnessed or has information regarding this incident is asked to contact Richmond RCMP at 604-278-1212 and quote file number 2020-18921. Should you wish to remain anonymous, contact Crimestoppers by phone at 1-800-222-TIPS (8477).
