The Richmond RCMP is growing its green fleet in what it’s calling a “pivotal shift” towards eco-friendly law enforcement.
Since 2022, the local RCMP has acquired 22 Ford Explorers as it replaces its aging fleet of police cars.
The hybrid vehicles reduce idle time fuel consumption by about 56 per cent and have an estimated cost savings of more than $22,000 over the vehicle’s lifetime, according to the Richmond RCMP
“As we look to the future, the integration of greener vehicles, including hybrid vehicles, within our fleet replacement program stands as a testament to our commitment to fiscal and environmental sustainability,” said RCMP Insp. Mark Baxter.
“The successful rollout has demonstrated that greener vehicles can withstand the rigours of law enforcement use.”
